Essences Guide

Power Up Your Weapons

Learn how to use Essences (Gems) to enhance your weapons with powerful stats and skill bonuses in Arknights: Endfield.

About essences in Arknights: Endfield

Essences are the socket-style upgrade system that lets you push a fully built character past the soft cap of their kit. Once unlocked at world tier progression, each weapon gains an essence slot that can carry one essence with up to three stat lines spanning Attribute, Stat, and Skill categories. The right essence configuration commonly adds 15–30% to a character's effective damage, which is why endgame Severe Energy Alluvium farming is the single most impactful long-term sanity sink for veteran players.

This guide covers where each essence drops by dungeon, the difference between Preset (fixed) and Randomized (dungeon-rolled) essences, the enhancement success rate curve, and how to spend Essence Dust without bricking your dust economy. Read the dungeon stat pool table first — picking the wrong dungeon is the single most common rookie mistake and costs days of wasted Sanity.

Randomized Essences (From Dungeons)

When farming Severe Energy Alluvium dungeons, you'll receive essences with randomized stats based on the dungeon's stat pool. The number of stats and their level ranges depend on the essence rarity.

Has 3 stats with the following level ranges:

Primary Attr STR, AGI, INT, or WILL
Lv.2-6
Secondary Attr ATK, DEF, Crit Rate, etc.
Lv.4-6
Skill Force, Tactic, etc.
Lv.2-3
4-Star Randomized Essence

Has 2 stats with the following level ranges:

Primary Attr STR, AGI, INT, or WILL
Lv.4-6
Skill Force, Tactic, etc.
Lv.2-3

Important Note

When farming in-game, you'll encounter randomized essences that may have better or different stat combinations than preset essences. Use the preset essences as a baseline for planning!

Pro Tips for Essences

Prioritize 5-Star Essences

5-star essences have more stat slots and higher maximum levels. Focus on farming and enhancing these for your main DPS characters.

Match Stats to Character

Choose essences that complement your character's kit. DPS characters benefit from ATK and Crit stats, while supports may prefer HP and healing stats.

Don't Discard Low Rarity

Dismantle lower rarity essences instead of discarding them. The Essence Dust you get is essential for enhancing your good essences.

Farm the Right Dungeon

Each dungeon drops specific stat pools. Check which dungeon drops the stats you need before farming to avoid wasting stamina.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different types of essences in Arknights: Endfield?

Endfield essences are split into three stat categories that occupy a single equip slot on each weapon. Attribute essences raise base stats — Strength, Agility, Will, Intellect, or your character's main attribute. Stat essences raise combat outputs like Attack, HP, Crit Rate, and elemental damage bonuses. Skill essences provide tag-based bonuses such as Assault, Suppression, or Pursuit that scale specific weapon skills. A 5-star essence can carry up to three different lines spanning all three categories, while a 4-star carries two — which is why endgame builds nearly always chase 5-stars.

Where do essences drop, and which dungeon should I farm?

All randomized essences come from the five Severe Energy Alluvium dungeons: Axe Armorbeast, Bonekrusher Arsonist, Bonekrusher Ballista, Heavy Sting α, and Tidewalker. Each boss has a fixed stat pool — for example, only Axe Armorbeast can drop Crusher and Twilight skill rolls, while Heavy Sting α is the only source of Brutality plus Treatment Efficiency together. Look at your build's target skill tags first and farm the dungeon that lists them. Wasting sanity on the wrong dungeon is the single biggest mistake new players make.

What is the difference between Preset and Randomized essences?

Preset essences are the 150 hand-tuned essence configurations the game ships with — fixed stat lines, fixed levels, and obtainable through story rewards, episode milestones, and shop exchanges. They are excellent baselines for new characters and frequently outperform poor randomized rolls. Randomized essences drop from Severe Energy Alluvium with stats chosen from each dungeon's pool, and their level ranges are tied to rarity (5-star primary attributes roll Lv.2–6, secondaries Lv.4–6, skills Lv.2–3). Use presets to fill empty slots, then replace them with high-roll randomized essences as you farm.

How does essence enhancement work and what are the success rates?

Each stat line on an essence can be upgraded one level at a time using Essence Dust, with success rates that drop sharply at higher levels: 60% from Lv.1 to Lv.2, 24% to Lv.3, 10.9% to Lv.4, 5% to Lv.5, and just 2.7% to reach Lv.6. Failed enhancements consume only the dust — the essence itself is preserved — but you still need to be selective. Dust comes from dismantling unwanted essences (5-stars yield the most), so dismantle aggressively and concentrate enhancement attempts on essences that already roll the right primary attribute for your character.

Should I dismantle low-rarity essences or save them for set bonuses?

There are no set bonuses in Arknights: Endfield — essences are individual modifiers, not paired sets. Dismantle every 3-star and most 4-stars that do not match your character's needed primary attribute. The Essence Dust you reclaim is required to push 5-star essences past Lv.4, where the real stat gains live. A handy rule: if a 4-star essence does not roll the correct primary attribute AND a useful skill tag, dismantle it. Hoarding mediocre essences is the second biggest mistake new players make after farming the wrong dungeon.
